Senior Cloud Compute Engineer, Technical Lead

The Production Engineering division is responsible for providing innovative processes and tools for the operation of our Research and Development platforms.


Thought Leadership (20%)

  • Advocate and define cloud architecture vision from a strategic perspective, including internal and external platforms, tools, and systems
  • Provide thought leadership in industry and to fellow team members across the business and technical project dimensions solving complex business requirements of financial research and high-performance computing
  • Demonstrate forward-thinking around where the research technology is going and how cloud technology can support these efforts

Cloud Architecture and Development (50%)

  • Technical leadership in designing, implementing and managing a large-scale, resilient, multi-tenant R&D environment utilizing cloud technologies
  • Develop solutions architecture and evaluate architectural alternatives for private, public and hybrid cloud models, including IaaS, PaaS, and other cloud services
  • Lead the definition and development of cloud reference architecture and management systems
  • Designing, maintaining and expanding our research computing environment using HPC technologies

Trade Team Consulting (30%)

  • Collaborating with internal trading teams and external business partners to support  their workloads in the public Cloud
  • Provide technical expertise and ownership in the diagnosis and resolution of an issue, including the determination and provision of workaround solution or escalation to service owners


The following qualifications are necessary:

  • Experience spanning at least two IT disciplines, including technical architecture, network management, application development, HPC, or operations
  • Strong client-facing communication skills. This is a highly visible position in an environment that can be very dynamic at times.
  • Experience with managing HPC workloads in public clouds, particularly GCP and AWS
  • Expert knowledge of cloud architecture and implementation features (OS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, orchestration, elastic scalability)
  • Expert understanding of OS concepts and internals of Linux, Intel-based hardware and server’s components
  • Understanding of and experience in infrastructure-as-code practices. Daily use of and contribution to developing automation and monitoring tools, such as configuration management, source control, CI/CD, automated deployment
  • Expert knowledge of Python, and Bash, knowledge of Go and Perl a plus
  • Experience with DevOps tools such as SaltStack, Cfengine, Ansible, Terraform
  • Experience with HPC tools such as HTCondor, SLURM, GridEngine, Nomad or Mesos
  • Understanding of server-side networking and typical network and routing protocols.
  • Strong understanding of SOA, object-oriented analysis and design, and/or client/server systems

The following qualifications are a plus:

  • Formal education in computer science or similar disciplines
  • Experience with container technologies, such as Docker and/or Kubernetes
  • Participation in open source or personal projects
  • Project management skills
  • Financial industry experience
