Senior PostgreSQL Engineer & Architect

Location:                         New York City, NY (Hybrid / On-Site)
Compensation:            $400k – $500k+ (Dependent on skills, experience, and interview)

About the Role:
We are a top hedge fund in New York City seeking a Senior PostgreSQL Engineer & Architect to lead the design, optimization, and management of our PostgreSQL infrastructure. You will be the firm’s subject matter expert (SME) on PostgreSQL, focusing on performance, scalability, and integration with SQL Server and Python-based systems to support real-time financial applications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Database Architecture & Design: Lead the design and architecture of scalable PostgreSQL systems to support high-performance trading and financial data applications.
• Cross-Database Integration: Integrate PostgreSQL with SQL Server, ensuring seamless data flow and optimized performance across both platforms.
• Performance Tuning & Optimization: Optimize PostgreSQL queries, indexing, and transaction performance. Address issues like slow queries and bottlenecks to ensure low-latency, high-throughput systems.
• Automation with Python: Develop Python scripts for automating database tasks, performance tuning, and integrating PostgreSQL with other systems.
• Scalability & High Availability: Architect solutions for vertical and horizontal scaling, implement replication, and design disaster recovery strategies.
• Collaboration & Support: Work closely with developers, infrastructure, and data teams to integrate database solutions and ensure ongoing support and optimization.

Required Qualifications:

• 8+ years of experience with PostgreSQL, including architecture, performance tuning, and high-availability solutions.
• Proficiency with SQL Server, including integration, administration, and performance tuning.
• Strong Python development skills for automation and integration.
• Experience with Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS, etc.) and cloud PostgreSQL solutions (e.g., AWS RDS).
• Solid SQL skills, including complex queries and stored procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in financial services, especially in hedge funds or trading environments.
• Familiarity with additional database technologies (MySQL, NoSQL).
• Exposure to containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
